American Express Global Business Travel offset 100 per cent
of carbon emissions generated by its employees' 2019 business travel, according
to the travel management company, which also committed to expanding carbon
neutrality across its entire global operations.
GBT's greenhouse gas offsetting strategy is based on the
Carbon Fund's Envira Amazonia Project, a tropical forest conservation project
that helps mitigate the release of more than 12.5 million tonnes of carbon
dioxide equivalent emissions.
With global travel bookings currently at a standstill amid
the coronavirus pandemic, GBT said it is working with clients to help reduce
their travel carbon footprints in preparation for the resumption of travel
demand.
