Delta will join some 40 airlines in providing fuel-burn data from its 4,000 daily flights, providing corporates and individual travellers with greater transparency on the environmental impact of flying with the airline.
IATA¡¯s CO2 Connect differs from some others methodologies in that provides operational data rather than modelled averages.
¡°The vast amount of data from Delta¡¯s worldwide operations is the raw material that will make IATA CO2 Connect¡¯s calculation the most reliable for the measurement and reporting of CO2 emissions,¡± says Marie Owens Thomsen, IATA¡¯s senior vice president sustainability and chief economist.
Airlines, passengers and corporates ¡°all need consistent and accurate calculations on which to make informed decisions on managing the carbon footprints,¡± she adds.
CO2 Connect is among a growing number of emissions methodologies that can help corporates steer travellers towards more sustainable decisions at the point-of-sale and improve the accuracy of their reporting.
