The carrier will offer the service to passengers flying from Frankfurt Airport with baggage pick-up available from the greater Frankfurt, Mannheim, Heidelberg, Hanau, Aschaffenburg, Wiesbaden, Mainz, Darmstadt and Bensheim areas.
Once baggage is collected, travellers using the service will receive ¡®real-time¡¯ updates via a personalised tracking link and a digital baggage tag receipt, meaning ¡°they only collect their luggage again at their destination,¡± the carrier said.
The new ¡®premium¡¯ service can be booked via the carrier¡¯s website up to 36 hours prior to departure, with prices ranging from €25 to €35 for two bags to/from a central location.
"With the new pick-up and check-in service, we are offering our passengers another exclusive service that is unique in Germany,¡± added Heiko Reitz, chief customer officer at Lufthansa Airlines.
In a separate development, the wider Lufthansa Group on Wednesday (19 February)?announced plans to acquire 100 per cent of ground services provider Swissport Losch GmbH & Co. KG at Munich airport.
The acquisition ¨C subject to the granting of a license, a commercial agreement and the approval of relevant antitrust authorities ¨C will provide operational stability and reliability for the group¡¯s airlines in Munich, according to Lufthansa.
As part of the planned transaction, Lufthansa intends to retain all current Swissport Losch employees, while the company¡¯s existing shareholders, Swissport Cargo Services Deutschland GmbH and Losch Airport Service M¨¹nchen GmbH, will continue to provide advice on the development of self-handling.??
