Global air demand rose a solid 4.5 percent year over year in May, according to the International Air Transport Association. Global capacity rose 2.7 percent year over year, its slowest in more than six years. Global load factor bumped up 1.4 percentage points year over year to 81.5 percent, surpassing May's historic high in 2018.
Crossborder air demand rose 4.3 percent year over year. All regions recorded growth, led by airlines in Latin America. Crossborder capacity rose 2.1 percent year over year. Load factor rose 1.7 percentage points year over year to 80.4 percent.
Domestic air demand rose 4.8 percent in May compared to May 2018. Capacity rose 3.8 percent year over year, and load factor climbed a 0.8 percentage point to 83.4 percent.
