Travel management company ATPI is bolstering its portfolio of sustainability projects with a new carbon offsetting initiative in Brazil.

The UK-based firm, which has its own carbon measurement and offset platform called ATPI Halo, is adding a project in Brazil¡¯s Acre state that is designed to protect more than 39,000 hectares of tropical rainforest.

ATPI said the project is being backed by Brazilian energy company Petrobras and is an Envira REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation) initiative. It will be added to the Halo platform through a partnership with CO2 offset project specialist Respira?International.

The Brazilian project joins ATPI Halo¡¯s other carbon compensation initiatives across Africa, Asia, Central America and Europe.

Pippa Ganderton, director of ATPI Halo, added: ¡°This is exactly the kind of project our clients have been asking for ¨C credible, high-integrity solutions that deliver tangible environmental and social value.¡±

She added that the Brazilian project would be ¡°especially meaningful for our client base with operations in South America, offering a powerful way to give back to those local communities¡±.

¡°It not only supports biodiversity in the Amazon but also drives sustainable livelihoods and aligns with the growing emphasis on ESG performance across the industry,¡± explained Ganderton.

ATPI Halo said it has so far sold more than 50,000 carbon credits to clients, which is equivalent to offsetting 50,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions or driving a petrol car for 250 million miles. The TMC also announced last year that it had reached its goal of achieving carbon neutrality?for its own operations.
