Update 27 July: Spain was removed from the UK's "safe list" over the weekend, meaning those travelling from the country now must self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival into the UK. Government ministers insisted the move was necessary following a spike of cases in Spain last week. The country was removed from the list with only six hours' notice, prompting travel industry bodies to call on the government to support those who had travelled to the country under the assumption they would not have to quarantine on their return.
Update 28 July: The UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office has updated its travel advice to advise against all but essential travel to Spain, including the Balearic and Canary Islands.
The UK government has added Estonia, Latvia, Slovakia,
Slovenia and St Vincent and the Grenadines to its list of travel corridors in
an update, but some European countries such as Portugal remain on the quarantine
list.
Government officials first announced travel corridors as an
alternative to blanket quarantine restrictions earlier this month, with the new
rules taking effect on 10 July. As part of its travel restrictions, the government
pledged to review its border measures every 28 days.
The five additional countries bring the total list of those
exempt from the 14-day self-isolation requirement to 80. The changes take
effect from 28 July.
In addition, the government said it will update its website
on a weekly basis with any changes to its travel advice ¡°to reflect the
shifting international health picture¡± as some countries such as Spain have
experienced recent local outbreaks.
