Travelport has rolled out a new plugin for its Smartpoint
travel agent desktop platform that provides global Covid-19 information, such
as government restrictions, lockdowns and safety measures within travel agent
workflows. The plugin is available at no charge to all Travelport users
globally and can be downloaded from the Travelport Marketplace, the company
said.
The tool provides agents with information on topics related
to the ongoing pandemic, including lockdown rules, entry requirements and
quarantine measures for travellers, with data provided by global risk and
safety intelligence specialist Safeture.
The plugin follows Travelport's March rollout of a dedicated
Covid-19 data hub that compiles information on travel supplier policies,
relevant news and travel guides.
July thus far has seen a spate of travel management
providers, including American Express Global Business Travel and BCD Travel,
roll out Covid-tracking and risk-monitoring services
Meanwhile, Travelport remains embroiled in legal proceedings
in the UK over the aborted sale of its majority-owned virtual travel card
provider eNett to Wex Inc, which pulled the plug on the US$1.7 billion deal on
the grounds that the Covid-19 pandemic qualifies as a "material adverse
effect" under the preliminary sale agreement.
