French railway operator SNCF said the disruption had been caused by a power outage near Moussy in northeast France, which led to the closure of a crucial part of the rail network north of Paris.
SNCF said the power supply problem would ¡°severely affect¡± Eurostar, TGV, Inoui and Ouigo services until the end of the day, with cancellations and route changes ¡°to be expected¡±. The operator added that it hoped services would be running normally by Tuesday (5 August) morning.
Eurostar said in a statement: ¡°Due to part of the track being temporarily closed on the French network, severe disruptions including cancellations are expected all day to and from Paris. We strongly advise all our passengers to postpone their journey to a different date.¡±
As well as impacting services between London and Paris, the incident led to disruption to trains from the French capital to Brussels and Amsterdam, including two services between Brussels and Paris having to turn back mid-journey.
The latest incident comes just weeks after Eurostar suffered major disruption to its trains when cables were stolen from the line in France.
